Napindan Taguig
Napindan Taguig
Napindan Taguig, is part of the Metro Manila regional area. Taguig City is one of the large municipalities that make up the Region. It lies to the south of central Manila between the Pasig River and Ninoy Aquila International Airport. On the south side it is bordered by Laguna de Bay, the large fresh-water lake south of Manila.
Napindan Barangay is a small, village-like area bordering the Pasig river and the lake. It has been a fairly secluded place because of its south-east corner location at the mouth of the river, with no roads exiting – you had to turn around and go back. Now, however, development is happening.
Flood control works have removed the threat of flooding, and the new C6 highway will in time provide exits from the area to the north and east as well as a more direct route towards the International Airport. In addition, reclaimed lands from the flood plain of the lake, are projected to host a shopping mall and small airport. These developments will likely energize the local economy and spur development of tourism and business.
A river ferry system of terminals and boats provided rapid and comfortable commuter service from the river source right to central Manila. This promising transportation system has been suspended however, as of February 2011. Hopefully it will be restarted in due course.
